In yesterday’s U.S. trading session, headline benchmarks appeared deceptively static: the S&P 500 closed flat, ticking up just 1 point, while the Dow gained 0.5% and the Nasdaq 100 drifted 0.3% lower. Beneath this placid surface, however, market breadth was exceptionally healthy, with 328 advancers against 175 decliners within the S&P 500. A massive internal factor rotation took place as application software surged +6%, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) tanked up to -5% intraday, dragged down single-handedly by Nvidia, which erased 21 index points on its own.
Capital is not exiting equities; it is aggressively rotating out of mega-cap concentration into SMID-caps and software plays.
Across the 11 S&P 500 sectors, Consumer Staples, Communications, and Financials closed in the green. Conversely, Information Technology fell roughly 1%, joined by a ~3% drop in the SOX Index (after hitting a trough of -5% intraday).
